What’s the differences between marine LCD displays and ordinary LCD displays?

There are some differences between marine LCD displays and ordinary displays, which are mainly reflected in the following aspects:

  • Use environment and design: Marine LCD displays need to adapt to the marine environment, such as better waterproof, moisture-proof, and salt spray corrosion resistance. The shell usually uses special materials and sealing design to resist seawater erosion and bad weather. Ordinary displays are mainly used in conventional indoor environments, and have lower requirements in terms of waterproofing and corrosion resistance.

  • Performance requirements: In marine applications, navigation information, nautical charts, ship status monitoring data, etc. are often required to be displayed, and the display is required to have high resolution and clear image display effects so that the crew can read the information accurately. In some marine operation scenarios, such as ship bridges, the display needs to maintain good visibility under direct strong light, so marine LCD displays usually have higher brightness and contrast. Although ordinary displays also have different specifications such as resolution and brightness, they generally do not emphasize visibility under strong light.

  • Reliability and stability: The marine environment is complex and changeable, and ships will experience vibrations and shocks during navigation. Marine LCD displays need to have stronger vibration and shock resistance to ensure stable operation under harsh conditions. At the same time, in order to reduce maintenance costs and risks, it has higher standards in terms of reliability, uses better quality components, and has a longer trouble-free operation time. Under normal use conditions, ordinary monitors have relatively low tolerance requirements for vibration and impact, and their reliability standards are not as strict as marine LCD monitors.

  • Interface and compatibility: Marine LCD monitors need to connect and transmit data with a variety of marine electronic equipment, such as radar, electronic chart systems, and ship automatic identification systems (AIS). Therefore, they will be equipped with a variety of standard interfaces, such as VGA, DVI, , and some professional maritime interfaces to ensure compatibility with different devices. Ordinary monitors are mainly for general computers, game consoles and other devices, and are usually equipped with common VGA, and other interfaces, and the demand for professional maritime interface.
