The difference between QLED and OLED?

What is QLED?

QLED is basically the most advanced version of traditional LCD-LED technology. In a television, an LED or light-emitting diode acts as a backlight, transmitting images through an LCD screen. But there's a big problem with LED-LCD displays: the backlight color (and how the LCD screen presents the image) can vary greatly from display to display. QLED attempts to solve this problem by placing a thin layer (called a quantum dot filter) between the LED backlight and the LCD screen. Quantum dot filters essentially purify the color of the light emitted by the LED to obtain better, more vivid, and more saturated colors.

What is OLED?

OLED in displays is a fundamentally different technology than traditional LED-LCD displays. OLED stands for Organic light-emitting Diode. In OLED displays, the pixels light up on their own, which means images can be displayed without an LCD screen. There are three so-called "micropixels" in each OLED pixel that correspond to the red/green/blue color matrix used to produce color.

Currently, OLED image quality and contrast are better. In particular, OLED is better at showing deep blacks, which is important for scenes shot at night or in low light. This is because each OLED pixel can be completely turned off, so no light is emitted at all.Because OLED pixels are individually controlled, their colors also change quickly. This is very important for playing games, watching sports or action movies, etc.In addition, OLED offers a wider viewing Angle, and since there is no LCD screen, the display itself is thinner, which makes it more suitable for mounting in a wall-mounted installation. QLED displays, on the other hand, are brighter thanks to quantum dot filters. This makes them better suited for rooms with higher ambient light levels, such as living rooms with lots of Windows. And QLED displays are cheaper, and the bigger the display size, the bigger the price gap.

In general, OLED is the better choice in most cases. OLED have brighter colors, higher contrast, and wider viewing angles than QLED. The exception is that QLED work better in bright rooms and are larger than most OLED displays, while costing less for a given size. If you're buying a display right now, OLED is the best choice, unless your main concern is getting the biggest size for the least amount of money, or you're putting the display in a room with plenty of ambient light. In this case, choose QLED.
